AUSTRIA

Hofgarten

Hofgarten will always be special for me, I spent a season here in the 80’s, where l learnt to ski. The resorts beauty and simplicity, made it the perfect start, a place where my love for skiing and lifestyle truly began.

Nestled in the heart of Austria’s Tyrolean Alps, is a hidden gem of a ski resort, that combines charm, a variety of well-maintained slopes, and welcoming Austrian hospitality. One of eight villages whose combined ski-area together form Austria’s extensive Ski Welt ski domain, boasting a total of 280-kilometers of linked pistes. Hofgarten offers both beginner-friendly runs and challenging terrains for advanced skiers, making it an excellent choice for families and mixed ability groups. Here, we’ll explore the highlights of Hofgarten, from the slopes and ski pass options to accommodation, dining, Apres-ski, and the best ways to get there.

Plan your Ski Adventure

Booking a ski trip involves a range of reliable resources to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. I have listed below our favorite companies we use when we plan our ski holiday.

Ski World– They have been taking customers to the best ski resorts in Europe, the US and Canada for more than 36 years.

Skyscanner– it’s our go to for finding the best flights, we usually start here and usually finish here.

Booking.com– for accommodation, we rely on booking.com for its extensive options and user reviews.

Train Travel– to European ski resorts is convenient and scenic, popular trips include Glacier express to Zermat, the Eurostar from London to the French Alps. We find “Omio or Trainline” are the best sites for booking trains in Europe.

Car Hire – we usually hire a car it offers us flexibility and convenience, allowing easy access to most resorts. Companies like “Discover Cars or Rentalcars.com’ provide reliable options with winter equipment.

Travel insurance– Don’t ski without it. If you get hurt on the mountain it could cost, you a small fortune if you’re not insured. We used “Safety Wing” when my wife broke her ankle a few years ago in Wengen they were terrific.

Ski Equipment – Bring your own ski gear, its usually cheaper and much better than renting, it ensures you have a perfect fit. Owning also saves time and money in the long run. Equipment like “Skis’, ‘Pants and Jackets,’ Gloves, ski -helmets and Thermal underwear” can all be bought online. You can purchase everything you need from Berg’s Ski and Snowboard (USA) or Snow and Rock (UK).

For specific resort information- we turn to the resort website, which often provides details on lift passes, equipment rentals, ski school bookings. These resources together make planning our ski trips a lot easier.

 SKIING IN HOFGARTEN

Hofgarten Ski Area

Hofgarten sits at a moderate elevation, with slopes ranging from approximately 1,200 to 2,100 meters. While it may not reach the heights of some larger Tyrolean resorts, this is still very much a working village not a purpose-built ski resort. In many ways the adjacent ski area is secondary to the day-to-day business of the village, and that’s the principal appeal of Hofgarten for visitors who choose this friendly village as a winter base.

  1. Beginner-Friendly: Hofgarten’s lower slopes are gentle, wide, and well groomed, ideal for beginners and those looking to build confidence.
  2. Intermediate Slopes: most of Hofgarten’s runs are intermediate, featuring long, scenic trails that meander through forested areas and open alpine fields.
  3. Advanced Terrain: While Hofgarten isn’t known for extreme skiing, there are several steeper runs and mogul areas that challenge more experienced skiers.
  4. Snow Park: For snowboarders and freestyle skiers, Hofgarten offers a small but fun park with jumps, rails, and boxes.

Hofgarten may lack the vast ski terrain of larger resorts, but its laid-back vibe, affordable pricing, and friendly atmosphere make it a perfect choice for skiers who prefer a more relaxed and slower pace.

Wear a SKI-HELMET, especially if you’re a beginner or in the snow parks and remember to pack your SKI GOOGLE for Hofgarten.

Ski Passes

Hofgarten offers a range of ski pass options to suit different needs, from single-day passes to multi-day and season-long options.

  1. Single-day Passes: Ideal for those visiting for a short trip, the single day pass provides access to all lifts and slopes in Hofgarten.
  2. Multi-Day passes: For those staying a bit longer, the multi-day passes are available in 2-to-6-day increments, offering a slight discount over purchasing multiple single-day tickets. This is popular with families and groups planning on spending several days exploring the area.
  3. Family and Group Packages.

Family packages make skiing more affordable; these include discounts for children and sometimes even free passes for younger kids.
